In the month’s since Microsoft’s launch of their new search engine, much has been said about it’s amazing market share growth.

Some even proclaiming a 10% market grab since it’s launch. However, much of that is smoke in mirrors and not “real” traffic…

In reality, Microsoft simply replaced it’s traffic from two seperate sources and combined them into Bing.  So, the appearance of a 10% marketshare right off the bat is bit off.

In their highest grossing month, Microsoft only gained approximately 1.6% marketshare over their competitors.  The majority of this growth appears to have come from Yahoo! which lost approximately 1.4% and the rest from Google and other “minor” search engines.
